Original Art

This page is the home of my more ‘traditional’ style of painting:

Real places, flights of imagination or attempts to capture special moments on canvas.

Here you will find artwork large and small, framed and unframed

(so please read all the details carefully!) Hopefully something for everyone

I specialise in paintings of Galloway, where the local landscape and big skies are a

permanent source of inspiration. I am also fortunate enough to live close to the coast,

where the sea provides ever-changing possibilities for artwork.

Other sources of inspiration include Wales, particularly Gwynedd and the environs

of the Talyllyn Railway, where I am a frequent visitor

Many of my paintings are for sale on this website, some smaller ones through my Folksy shop and selected mounted prints on archival quality paper are also available.

A Note on Framing

Painting of a coastal landscape with green grass, rocks, a sandy beach, and a cloudy sky.

My larger paintings are usually sold framed. I take them to a local, professional framer. - Where possible, these are not glazed, but in some circumstances glass is added to protect the painting, or for another specific reason - for example, my circular paintings are framed in square frames, and these have mounts, and therefore have to be glazed.

A framed painting of a purple flowering tree near a body of water with green grass and red flowers in the foreground, and hills in the background.
A framed painting of a winter landscape with snow-covered hills, leafless trees, and a partially cloudy sky at sunset, viewed through a circular cutout.
Painting of a sunset over the ocean, with colourful clouds in the sky and waves crashing against the shore.
Framed painting of a countryside landscape at sunset, with rolling hills, cultivated fields, and a dramatic sky with clouds.

Occasionally I recycle previously used frames for my paintings and do the framing myself. This is stated in the description of the relevant painting, and reflected in the pricing. I will not use any frame which I would not be happy to have on my own wall! (Paintings in frames are notoriously difficult to photograph well. Bear with me, I’m learning!)

Please read the descriptions accompanying my paintings for specifics as each one is unique.

Display Options

Some of my smaller paintings are sold unframed. These come with a small wooden stand in one of two different styles. It would be quite possible for people to frame any of these works. (Please read the caveat at the bottom of the page!) They are all on either small canvases, canvas boards or wood blocks. The depth of the canvas determines the kind of wooden stand your painting is supplied with.

Unless the back of a canvas board is plain white already, the back of the painting will be painted in a complementary plain colour.

If you plan to frame your picture yourself, please ensure you measure it exactly.

The canvas boards do not always fit into standard size frames, even if it appears they should!
