Cats and Dogs

I’ve been fortunate to have a few lovely commissions recently (I can’t share the newest ones as they are still top secret!) and I’m just highlighting a couple here - in very different styles! Both of these are memory portraits - those who know me know how much my animals mean to me, so it’s always lovely to be asked to paint a portrait to help someone remember their pet, even if it is quite a responsibility to try and get the animal to be recognisable!

This handsome chap is Finn

Sadly no longer with us, I was asked to paint his portrait. He looks as though he was such a character, and I hope I managed to capture a little of that. This was a mixed media portrait on pastelmat paper.

(Shown with the agreement of the person who commissioned the portrait)

And this is Colorado.

I’m not sure if this really counts as a commission, but it felt like one!

Colorado was one of my cats, and very much part of my family. I tend to only very occasionally draw or paint my own animals (usually for portrait practice!) but after Colorado died, my son asked if I could paint Colorado’s picture for him - but “Can you make him a superhero, Mum?”

There was a challenge! So I did. This is “Colorado - Supercat” and the original painting hangs in my son’s bedroom.

Fancy commissioning a portrait of your animal? (it doesn’t have to be a cat or a dog!) Or a bespoke painting of another subject? Have a look at my commissions page, and please get in touch using the contact form!
